Richard Earns MEAC Track Performer of the Week

 
 NORFOLK, Va. - South Carolina State's Tyrell Richard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Men's Track Performer of the Week while Bethune-Cookman's Asia Joe and Hampton's Janet Okeago were selected as the Co-Women's Track Performers of the Week, the conference announced.

Vikarie Elliott of Morgan State has been named the Men's Field Performer of the Week while Howard's Dominique Cleggett and North Carolina Central's Bhrandi Crenshaw earned Women's Field Performer of the Week honors.

Richard (Jr., Georgetown, S.C.) sprinted to a pair of first-place finishes in the 200 and 400-meter dashes at the Charleston Southern University Spring Break Invitational. He ran a personal best in the 200 (20.78) while running a time of 46.72 in the 400. Both times rank first in the MEAC with the 200 time second nationally and his 400 time seventh nationally. Richard's mark in the 200 ranks second all-time in SC State history.
 
Elliott (So., Manchester, Jamaica) won the shot put at the Maryland Invitational after recording a throw of 49-4.25 feet while placing fourth in the hammer with a toss of 146-2.
 
Okeago (Jr., Nyahururu, Kenya) claimed the 10,000-meter championship at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational after a run of 37:10.28 last week. Her time ranks third nationally and first in the MEAC as a result. She also placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:23.32.
 
Joe (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) ran a MEAC and personal-best time of 53.63 in the 400 at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. Her time currently ranks 11th nationally in the event.
 
Cleggett (Sr., New Orleans, La.) jumped 19-5 last week at the 49er Classic which moved her into the top spot in the MEAC and qualified her for the I4CA/ECAC Championships.
 
Crenshaw (Fr., Alexandria, Va.) posted the MEAC's top mark (39-11.5) in the triple jump after a third-place performance at the 49er Classic. Crenshaw posted the mark on her fourth attempt.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS (Men)
Isaac Arriola (Hampton) placed third in the triple jump at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational with a jump of 47-9.25.
 
Tayvon Burris (Hampton) finished second in the 400 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational after running 48.65.
 
Oussama Chouati (Maryland Eastern Shore) recorded a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase clocking in at 9:18.42 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
 
Kareem Fair (Bethune-Cookman) currently ranks first in the MEAC and 10th nationally after a first-place performance in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.42. Also ran on the 4x100-meter relay team which placed second with a MEAC-best time of 40.48.
 
Gordon Lewis (North Carolina Central) won the 400 at the 49er Classic in a personal-best time of 47.77.
 
Jeremiah Peters (Bethune-Cookman) placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 56-8 at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge.
 
David Too (Florida A&M) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:09.29 with a 26-second gap between the second-place performer at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge.
 
Desean White (Morgan State) won the 200-meter dash after clocking a 22.13 and was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team which captured first at the Maryland Invitational.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS (Women)
Anastacia Barham (Morgan State) captured a clean sweep at the Maryland Invitational with first place wins in the 100 and 200-meter dashes while also leading the 4x100-meter relay to a first-place finish.
 
Emmax Kiplagat (Florida A&M) secured a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:25.61 at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge.
 
Uchechi Onuoha (Howard) captured three, top 10 finishes at the 49er Classic.
 
Dominica Roseau (Maryland Eastern Shore) placed second in the 400 (57.26) and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.62) at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
 
Breana Tyler (South Carolina State) won both the long and triple jumps with leaps of 18-3.25 feet and 38-1.5 feet, respectively at the CSU Spring Break Invitational.
 
Akassja White (Bethune-Cookman) ranks at the top of the MEAC in the shot put after a 44-foot throw at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge.
