ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team will host the third of its four-game home MEAC stand against visiting Delaware State Saturday (Jan. 21) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 4 p.m., immediately following the women's contest.
South Carolina State is coming off a tough 86-84 decision to Savannah State Saturday (Jan. 16). Senior guard
Eric Eaves led the Bulldogs with a team-high 23 points in the loss. Meanwhile the Hornets, dropped their last two league games to Hampton (85-77 OT) and Norfolk State (75-70).Devin Morgan led Delaware State in both contests with 16 points each.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Eaves is the leader on the hardwood for SC State with 16.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Junior forward
Tashombe Riley powers the frontcourt with 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. Guard's senior
Greg Mortimer and junior James "JJ" Richardson chips in a little over 9.1 points and
Edward Stephens (7.2 ppg) controls the tempo on the floor with 2.4 assist.
SCOUTING DSU: Three players are in double-figures for the Hornets with Morgan leading the way with 14.6 points per outing, while teammate DeAndre Haywood is second at 11.0 ppg. Kavon Waller adds 10.4 points and 4.0 rebounds and DeVaughn Mallory is the leader on the boards with 6.6 rebounds and 9.8 ppg. Morgan controls the tempo on the floor with 3.2 assist.
