Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Freshman midfielder Jaqueline Beristain scored the first two goals of her Lady Bulldog career to lead South Carolina State to a 2-1 victory over Wofford on Sunday afternoon at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
SC State recorded its first win of the season and improved to 1-3-1, while Wofford fell to 0-5 on the season.
When asked about her team's performance, head coach Sandra Burris said: "This is the team I have seen since day one. They just had to believe in themselves and work for each other, which they did for 90 minutes today."
Wofford got on the board first when Katie Beuerline scored an unassisted goal in the 24
th minute.
Thirteen minutes later, Beristain netted her first goal on a penalty kick. Beristain's second goal came with just three seconds left in the first half on an assist from junior midfielder
Tierra Pullard.
Wofford outshot SC State 7-3 in the second half, but neither team was able to score in the final 45 minutes.
Goalkeeper
Taylor Brittingham recorded the first win over her Lady Bulldog career to improve to 1-1 on the season. She had nine saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes.
SC State plays the first of four straight road matches at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Gardner-Webb.
