Women's Box versus Howard
NORFOLK, VA—The South Carolina State women's tennis team advanced to the semifinal round with an 4-0 victory over No. 2 seed Howard in the opening round of the 2016 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship, Thursday (April.21) at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
No.3 seed South Carolina State (6-10) will face last year's defending MEAC Champion No.1 seed Bethune-Cookman (12-13), in the semifinals at 9 a.m.
The Lady Bulldogs had no problem jumping out early, claiming the doubles point with Rassif/Brown defeating Roheman/Josiah (6-4) at the No. 1 spot and Vasic/Marcanikova def. Hutchinson/Joynes (6-2) at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action,
Andjela Vasic def. Nicole Hutchinson (6-2, 6-4) at the No.3 spot;
Marketa Marcanikova Def. Kindha Nasef (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 3 spot and
Carla Petreanu def. Chris Joynes, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
SC State will look to avenge last season's tough loss in the regular season and title game to Bethune-Cookman. The winner of the match will advance to the championship final on Saturday (April.23) at 9.m.
