WTEN: Lady Bulldogs Fall Short To Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. –The South Carolina State women's tennis team fell short, 4-3, of their first win of the season to Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.

The Bucs took the doubles matches on courts 2 and 3 to take the opening point of the afternoon and held off a late South Carolina State rally to record their 17th straight home win dating back to the end of the 2013 season.

In singles competition, Thompson topped Oleksandra Filippova 6-1, 6-0 on court no. 2 to give the Bucs the 2-0 lead. CSU's lead reached 3-0 following Koerner's 6-3, 6-3 win over Marketa Marcanikova on court no. 4.

The Bulldogs rallied back with wins on courts 3 and 5 as Andejla Vasic topped Srowdowski 7-6, 7-5, and Dakota Brown defeated Koussenkova, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In the final match on court no. 1, Intissar Rassif topped CSU's Luecke in a three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

South Carolina State is back in action on next Saturday (Feb.13) in Spartanburg, SC against Troy University. First serve in doubles competition is set for 12 noon.
