Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's soccer team dropped a tough match against Winthrop on Friday night, falling 2-1 in double overtime at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
The contest was tied at 0-0 until the 86
th minute when freshman midfielder
Justine Zepeda scored her first goal of the season on an assist from
Naydeen Cabalo to put SC State (1-5) up 1-0. But Winthrop (2-2-1) was able to score as time expired to force overtime.
In the first extra period, the Eagles took two shots and the Lady Bulldogs took one, but neither team was able to score, forcing another 10-minute period. Winthrop's Taylor Coleman found the back of the net in the 108
th minute to give the Eagles the win.
The Lady Bulldogs took 11 shots for the match, the second most this season, and took four shots on goal. Zepeda and Cabalo took three shots apiece, while sophomore midfielder
Tierra Pullard took two shots. Senior goalkeeper
Haley Austin had 11 saves and allowed two goals.
SC State returns to action on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. match at the College of Charleston.
