ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State held its first scrimmage of the preseason Saturday afternoon at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
SC State also held its annual Media & Picture Day during the morning session, prior to the evening scrimmage. The Bulldogs started the scrimmage with its main focus on the installation of special teams (kicking and punting) in game-style situations.
"It was the first scrimmage and you can see some potential there but it's still too early to tell at this point," said head coach Buddy Pough.
"We have a lot of players that can do certain things, which will be important for us moving forward, "said Pough. "The fact that of the matter is we have to build some continuity and get all the right components in place to get things going."
Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough said he was extremely pleased with his squad and sees bright spots in his offense and defense, however, he noted that he would have to wait until he and his staff viewed the film from the scrimmage to get a true evaluation of how his team did.
The Bulldogs take Sunday off, before returning to the practice field Monday in an early morning session at 9:30 a.m. in full pads.
