Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Maggie Proffitt had a game-high 16 points to lead the University of Central Arkansas women's basketball team to a 51-38 win over South Carolina State on Sunday afternoon in the Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic at UNF Arena.
UCA improves to 9-1 on the season with the win, while SC State falls to 6-4.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead after a jumper by
Brittany Drumgoole with 6:07 left in the period. A jumper by
Bria Ratliff at the buzzer sent SC State into the quarter break with a 12-8 advantage.
The Sugar Bears took the lead on a layup by Kendara Watts at the 7:13 mark to go up 13-12 and had a 20-19 lead heading into the break. SC State regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Drumgoole with 7:26 left in the third period to bring the score to 25-22, but UCA went on a 10-5 run to end the period and reclaim the lead.
SC State scored five unanswered points to the start the final period and take a momentary 35-32 lead. UCA regained the lead at the 6:49 mark and outscored SC State 15-3 to close out the game.
Brianna Mullins had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Sugar Bears and Raquel Logan grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
Drumgoole led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points.
JaQuanna Murray had six rebounds and matched her career-high of four blocks, while
Jasmine Coleman also had six rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs have some time off for the holidays before they return to action on Dec. 30 with a 7 p.m. game at Jacksonville University.
