SC State got on the board first with a layup by Amber Howard with 8:40 left in the first quarter. The teams traded baskets the rest of the period and a layup by Mallory Stone with 57 seconds left broke a 14-all tie and put the Lady Bulldogs ahead by two after the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter mirrored the first with both teams playing well on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. A steal and fast-break layup by Ashleigh Outler gave SC State a two-point lead (24-22), but Furman went on a 5-3 run to take a 29-27 lead into halftime.
