Bulldogs Fall Short To Hornets 60-49

Box Score DOVER, Del. – The South Carolina State Bulldogs suffered yet another cold shooting night falling short, 60-49, to host Delaware State Saturday (Jan.17) at Memorial Hall.

South Carolina State falls to 5-14 overall, 3-2 in the MEAC, while Delaware State improves to 8-9 overall, 2-1 in the league.

"I thought we defended well enough to win this game today, but I have to give credit to Delaware State," said Bulldog head coach Murray Garvin. "They went into a zone in the second-half and we struggled to make shots from the perimeter."

Freshman guard Edward Stephens led the Bulldogs with a team-high 13 points and three steals, while the Hornets was led by All-MEAC forward Kendal l Gray with a game-high 16 points, 23 rebounds ,five blocks , and five assist .

Senior guard Amere May added 16 points and six rebounds, while teammate Kendall Williams finished with 10. Senior forward Tyshawn Bell grabbed 11 rebounds for the Hornets in the winning effort.

The Bulldogs defense force DSU to a game-high 17 turnovers, but was out-rebounded 55-38. Freshman guard Ty Solomon provided a solid effort for the Bulldogs with eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

South Carolina State scored 12 unanswered points off turnovers, while getting 26 points from the bench play in the loss.

"We have to get more points from the paint when our outside shooting is not converting into points," said Garvin. "Our guys will keep working to get better and ready for UMES come Monday night."

SC State returns to action on Monday (Jan.19) in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader at Maryland-Eastern Shore with the women beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the men following immediately afterwards.
