Tiana Jones Monday won a playoff on the second hole to earn medalist honors at the two-day (Feb. 16-17) Gary Freeman Golf Invitational, hosted by Bethune-Cookman. Jones (79-74 = 154) and Converse College's Marley Felthousen (76-78=154) both carded 36-hole totals of 10 over par 154 in the two-day event and a playoff was necessary to decide the winner.
Jones was one of three SC State players to finish in the top five among individuals. Lady Bulldog
Cheryl Chua, like Jones a senior, finished third after shooting a 36-hole total of (80-77) 157, 13 over par. Her twin sister,
Cherie Chua – the first-round leader -- was a stroke behind at (75-83) 158.
Converse grabbed team honors with a 36-hole, team total of (340-335) 675. Hampton finished second at (363-345) 708, followed by SC State with a (364-370) 734, Savannah State at (388-370) 758 and Palm Beach Atlantic with an (436-406) 842.
