Box Score LUBBOCK, TX—The Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated South Carolina State, 101-39, Wednesday in the opening round game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

"We had a cold shooting night with a very young team" said SC State head coach Murray Garvin. "We ran the plays got some good looks but the shots didn't fall in our favor tonight against Texas Tech."

The Red Raiders had four players in double-figures with freshman forward Justin Gray leading the way with  a game-high 18 points, senior Robert Turner was 4-of-5 from three-point range and finished with 14 points  on the night.
 
Junior guard Devaugntah Williams added 13 points and seven assists, while freshman center Isaiah Manderson chipped in 11 points and six rebounds in the victory.
 
Texas Tech dished out a game-high 28 assists and shot 50% (11-of-22) from behind the arc. Freshman forward Tashombe Riley led the Bulldogs with eight points, while teammate Patrick Kirksey grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

 "I have to give Texas Tech credit they shot the ball well enough to win this evening," stated Garvin. "We now have to regroup and get ready for Houston on Saturday."

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST/2 p.m. EST when they take on host the University of Houston in the second round of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, before heading to Las Vegas, NV to battle Abilene Christian Monday (Dec. 22) at 2:30 p.m. CST/3:30 p.m. EST in the Third Round of the Las Vegas Classic at the Orleans Arena.
