Stephens Earns MEAC Top Weekly Honor

NORFOLK, Va., – South Carolina State freshman guard Edward Stephens was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
 
Devin Martin of Maryland Eastern Shore earned Player of the Week  honors, while North Carolina Central's Jordan Parks was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Stephens (G, 6-2, Fr., Columbia, S.C.) tallied 15.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.6 assists against Bethune-Cookman, College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina. He dropped in 26 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, and five 3-pointers in a 71-66 victory over Bethune-Cookman.
 
 Martin (G, 6-4, Jr., Baltimore, Md.) averaged 22.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals against North Carolina A&T State and Navy. He shot 5-of-9 from the floor, including four 3-pointers, to finish with 27 points, 12 boards and two steals in a 69-58 conference win over the Aggies.
  
Parker (F, 6-7, Sr., Queens, N.Y.) recorded two double-doubles, including a season-high 13 rebounds, in a 61-39 victory over Howard. For the week he collected 15 defensive rebounds, two blocked shots and three steals, while averaging 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds against Howard and Maryland.

James Daniel (HOW) finished with 18 points, three assists and two rebounds against Richmond.
 
Arnold Fripp (CSU) averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 block in two non-conference games last week.
 
RaShid Gaston (NSU) registered 19 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks in an 88-69 conference win over Coppin State.
 
Kendall Gray (DSU) finished with seven points, seven boards and five blocks against Campbell.
 
Mike Myers (UMES) recorded 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 53-46 non-conference win over Navy.
 
D'Shon Taylor (NSU) had a career-high 24 points in an 88-69 win over Coppin State.
 
Zaynah Robinson (NSU) totaled eight points, four rebounds, two steals, and one assist in an 88-69 win over Coppin State.
 
Darryl Palmer (SCSU) finished with six points, two rebounds, and three blocks in a 71-66 conference win over Bethune-Cookman.
