Kourtney Williams had a game-high 21 points to lead the South Carolina State women's basketball team to a 103-55 win over Allen University on Friday night at the Smith-Hamilton-Middleton Memorial Center. SC State starts the season at 1-0, while Allen falls to 0-6.
The Lady Bulldogs started the game on a 13-0 run that was capped by a layup by freshman guard
Brittany Drumgoole with 17:07 left in the first half. Allen got on the board at the 16:10 mark after a bucket by S'Nitra Mack.
Halfway through the first half, a fast-break layup by Williams put SC Sate up by 18 (25-7) with 9:54 left. The Lady Bulldogs went on a 29-12 run to take a 54-19 lead into halftime.
The Yellow Jackets managed to score 36 points in the second half, but could get no closer than 30 points (61-31) in the final period.
Allen shot 32.7 percent (16-of-49) for the game and was 17-of-22 from the free-throw line. SC State made 42 of its 79 shot attempts (53.2 percent) from the floor, including 7-of-21 from 3-point range (33.3 percent). The Lady Bulldogs went 12-of-28 from the charity stripe and outrebounded Allen 51-32.
Dekoya Mack led Allen with 19 points. S'Nitra Mack had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kamya Thomas finished with 11 points.
Freshman guard
Ashleigh Outler had 19 points in her Lady Bulldog debut. She was 8-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and added four rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist in 20 minutes.
Drumgoole and junior forward Toni Greer each contributed 11 points and junior guard
Amber Howard recorded 10 points. Drumgoole had a game-high six assists.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action next Friday when they host Columbia College at 6:30 p.m. at the S-H-M Memorial Center.
