ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs (0-2) will seek their first win of the season this Saturday, when they host the visiting Alabama A&M Bulldogs (1-1) at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium. Kick-off is 6 p.m.
This will be the 24th meeting between the two schools dating back to 1946. The last time the two teams met was back in 1974, SC State came away with a 31-14 victory over Alabama A&M.
Coach Pough and the Bulldogs have gotten off to a rocky start suffering two-straight losses to # 25 Coastal Carolina, 27-20, in the season-opener and fourth-ranked Clemson 52-13 in Death Valley.
SC State is led by red-shirt senior Richard Cue who is the top signal caller for the Bulldogs this season, leads the air attack throwing 20-of-41 for 262 yards and three touchdowns, while red-shirt sophomore and Kentucky transfer Justin Taylor leads the way in rushing with 40 carries for 125 yards and one touchdown.
Senior wide receiver Tyler McDonald has been the bright spot for the offense this season with a team-high eight catches for 246 yards and three touchdowns. McDonald needs 20 more catches to breaks SC State's All-Time Career Total Reception mark currently held by Oliver (Tre') Young (2006-09).
Senior's Kimario McFadden and Joe Thomas spearhead the defense with 18.5 tackles (16 solo) each, while teammate junior linebacker Justin Hughes adds 16.5.
South Carolina State will return to action on Saturday (Sept.21) when they battle Benedict College in the Palmetto Capital City Classic at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kick-off is 4 p.m.
