Lady Bulldogs Knock Off No. 72 ECU

SC State improve to 10-4 on the season.

GREENVILLE, NC—The South Carolina State women's tennis team captured their biggest win of the season, knocking off nationally-ranked No. 72 East Carolina 4-3 Saturday at the ECU Tennis Complex.

“We played a tough ECU team today”, said SC State head coach Hardeep Judge. “We knew today that the doubles point was key for us especially since we were playing with a couple of banged up players.”

The Lady Bulldogs (10-4) did just that jumping out early on to capture the doubles point over the Lady Pirates with Craciun/Dohnalova def. Wanko/Laduca 8-3 and Khatcei/Bosneag winning over Terpko/Gray 9-8.

In singles action it was senior Maria Craciun def. Wanko in two sets at the No.1 spot 6-3, 6-2; freshman Klara Dohnalova def. Terpko at the No. 3 spot 6-4, 7-5; and senior Laura Bosneag knocking off Richmond in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at the No.6 spot.

“We started really well in singles but unfortunately it started to rain and we had to move the match indoors. It took us a while to adjust to the indoor play,” said Judge. “We let two matches slip away from us this year 4-3 so it feels good to pull one out in a close battle against a tough opponent.”
