Former Bulldog Standout Thompson Apart Of Super Bowl Championship Team

        Former All-MEAC and South Carolina State standout Christian Thompson had one of the best seats in the Superdome Sunday for the Raven's 34-31, win over the San Francisco 49ers to claim Super Bowl XLVIII.
      Thompson (6-0, 211),  a native  of  North Lauderdale, FL was an fourth round draft selection last April of the Baltimore Ravens, the former South Carolina State safety in his rookie campaign played primarily on special teams curtailed in November with a knee injury. He was placed on injured reserve by the team, making him inactive for the rest of the season.
         Even though he was out for the Super Bowl, Thompson will still join an exclusive club of former Bulldogs with Super Bowl rings. Newly-selected SC State College Football Hall of Fame inductee safety Donnie Shell was on four championship teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1974-75; 1979-80) and nose tackle Chartic Darby won with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003, and  tight end Arthur Love although injured was a part of the New England Patriot (2001-02) championship team.
           He is one of eight players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who was in New Orleans and apart of Super Bowl teams Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco Forty-Niners.
        Six former HBCU players were on the Ravens roster and two former HBCU players on the Forty-Niners. The Ravens featured Adrian Hamilton (LB-Prairie View A&M), Ramon Harewood (T-Morehouse) and Jacoby Jones (WR-Lane) on the active roster, with Anthony Levine (S-Tennessee State) and Christian Thompson (S-S.C. State) on injured reserve and Nigel Carr (S-Alabama State) on the Practice Squad.
        The 49ers have Lamar Divens (DT-Tennessee State) and Ricardo Lockette (WR-Ft. Valley State) on their Practice Squad.
         Former All-SIAC quarterback and Morehouse 77' alum Jerome Boger was the second African-American in the history of the Super Bowl to serve as head official. Boger, who is a former SIAC official, was the highest-graded official by the NFL this season. His crew averaged 94.1 penalty yards per game, the fourth-fewest of any officiating crew who worked at least 10 games.
        Thompson is one of four former S.C. State players currently on NFL rosters. The others are safety Rafael Bush (New Orleans), defensive back Phillip Adams (Oakland) and linebacker Marshall McFadden (Pittsburgh).
