MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — South Carolina State and Florida A&M will meet Sunday in the Orange Blossom Classic, with both teams entering the matchup at 1-0 after opening the 2026 season with victories.
 
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, with the game scheduled to air nationally on ESPN.

The Bulldogs enter the matchup following an emphatic 87-0 victory over Savannah State on Aug. 29, while Florida A&M opened its season with a 20-7 victory over Albany State (Ga.).
 
While both teams enter unbeaten, the statistics tell two distinctly different stories.
 
THE TRUTH: SC STATE'S OFFENSE HAS BEEN EXPLOSIVE
South Carolina State's opening-game numbers were dominant.
The Bulldogs generated 627 yards of total offense, including 423 rushing yards and 204 passing yards. SC State averaged 9.0 yards per play and produced 32 first downs. The Bulldogs also scored touchdowns on 12 of their 13 trips into the red zone, including 10 rushing or passing touchdowns.

SC State's ground game was particularly impressive, averaging 9.2 yards per rushing attempt. Mason Pickett-Hicks led the Bulldogs with 103 yards on 10 carries, while Ricorian Brown added 75 yards on seven carries. Josh Shaw rushed for 74 yards and three touchdowns on nine attempts, while Tyler Smith produced 72 yards on only five carries.
 
Through the air, Keely Watson completed 9 of 13 passes for 108 yards and four touchdowns, while Ronnie Robinson completed 9 of 11 for 96 yards. As a team, the Bulldogs completed 75% of their passes without throwing an interception.
 
The Bulldogs also converted 80% of their third-down opportunities, going 8-for-10 against Savannah State.
 
THE TRUTH: FLORIDA A&M'S DEFENSE WILL HAVE TO ANSWER THE CHALLENGE
Florida A&M also opened with a victory, defeating Albany State 20-7.
The Rattlers produced 260 total yards, with 190 passing yards and 70 rushing yards. Florida A&M completed 14 of 25 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown while holding Albany State to just 163 total yards.
 
Quarterback Isaiah Knowles completed 14 of 23 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown. His top receiving targets included Maliek Denmark, who recorded two catches for 62 yards, and Corey Petty, who added two receptions for 42 yards. Jaquan Lee caught six passes for 25 yards and a touchdown.
 
Florida A&M's defense produced 10 sacks for 54 yards, a statistic that immediately stands out entering Sunday's matchup against an SC State offense that was nearly unstoppable in its opener. Antonio Camon led the Rattlers with nine tackles, including five tackles for loss and three sacks.
 
SC STATE'S DEFENSE HAS SOMETHING TO PROVE
The Bulldogs' defensive performance against Savannah State was just as convincing as the offense.
 
SC State held its opponent to 117 total yards, including only 75 rushing yards and 42 passing yards. The Bulldogs forced one interception and limited Savannah State to seven first downs while pitching a shutout.
 
Jabin Ford recorded the Bulldogs' lone interception, while SC State's defense finished with 61 total tackles and eight tackles for loss.
 
The challenge Sunday will be different. Florida A&M demonstrated against Albany State that it can create offensive balance, particularly through the passing game.

The numbers suggest three critical areas.
1. Florida A&M's pass rush vs. SC State's quarterbacks.
The Rattlers recorded 10 sacks in their opener. SC State did not allow a sack against Savannah State, setting up a major battle in the trenches.
2. SC State's rushing attack vs. Florida A&M's front seven.
The Bulldogs rushed for 423 yards in their opener, while the Rattlers held Albany State to three rushing yards. Something has to give.
3. Third-down efficiency.
SC State converted 80% of its third downs in the opener, compared with Florida A&M's 23.08%. Sustaining drives could be critical in a matchup expected to feature two aggressive defenses.
