SC State vs. Howard Game Notes
WASHINGTON,DC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team will seek its first conference win of the season Monday, when they take on an struggling Howard Bison team at Burr Gymnasium. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
Both teams enter the contest with only four wins on the season. The Bison (4-18, 1-7 in the MEAC) have been bothered by injures, dropped a tough, 52-42 decsicion to the Tigers of Savannah State on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (4-16 overall, 0-7 in the league) is still without starting guard Adama “Louis” Adams who is sideline with a high ankle sprain. Adams is a cruical part of SC State's scoring offense with 10.6 ppg. Freshman guard/forward Shaquiell Mitchell will return to the lineup after suffering a concussion early two weeks again in the Bulldogs, 89-77 loss to Florida A&M in Orangeburg.
Junior forward Matthew Hezekiah leads the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding with 14.1 ppg, and 7.8 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Khalif Toombs is second with 12.1 points, and 3.2 rebounds. Toombs reached his career milestone scoring his 1,000th point aganist the Rattlers.
Freshman forward Darryl Palmer is having an remarkable rookie campaign playing 24.5 minutes per game, while averaging 8.1 points and grabbing 5.3 boards per game. Mitchell is also tossing in 6.4 ppg, and 4.4 rebounds while on the floor.
South Carlina State will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Savannah, GA to take on the Tigers of Savannah State in a 4 pm showdown, immediately after the women's contest.
