Three Bulldogs Earn All-American Honors

Thomas, McDonald, Carter named to Beyond Sports Network Team

SC State senior linebacker Joe Thomas was named to the First Team Beyond Sports Network (BSN) All-American Team.
LEESBURG, Va.—South Carolina State's Joe Thomas, Tyler McDonald and Andrew Carter were all named to the 2013 Beyond Sports Network All-American Team, announced by the the home office in Leesburg, Va. Bellamy was selected as an honorable mention.

Thomas (r-Sr., 6-0, 220) was named to the first team on defense. The Blackville, SC native was named this year's MEAC Defense Player of the Year, while recording 116 total tackles, 84 solo, with a conference-best 20 tackles for a loss during the 2013 campaign. Thomas collected 7.5 sacks, sixth in the MEAC, with one interception, five breakups, five hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery to help the Bulldogs finish as the nation's No. 1 rushing defense (80.5 avg./g) and No. 2 scoring defense (14.0 avg./g). Thomas earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades once this season and is currently listed on the Sports Network's Buck Buchannan Award watch list, which recognizes the nation's top Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) defensive player. Thomas becomes the 13th Bulldog to earn the conference's top defensive award, however he is only the second to have been selected in more than 10 years (David Erby 2010).

McDonald (Sr., 6-3, 190) was named third team offense. The Summerville, SC native finished his career as the All-Time Career Reception and Yardage Leader at South Carolina State University. McDonald had career totals of 158 receptions, 2,372 yards and 17 touchdowns in his four-year stint with the Bulldogs. He also earned post season honors being named to All-MEAC First Team, while be selected to the 2013 College All Star Bowl this coming February held on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, SC.

A third team defense player, Carter (r-Jr., 6-1, 240) the Hamlet, NC native was one of the dominant forces on the defensive line for the Bulldogs this season alongside teammate's Javon Hargrave and Alex Glover. Carter finished the season 7th in tackles for SC State with 47 total (32 solo), 15.5 TFL, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He also earned All-MEAC First Team honors, while leading the conference in sacks (11) and finishing 5th in the nation.

Bellamy (r-Sr., 6-3, 300) the Johnston, SC native earned honorable mention accolades for the All-America team. Bellamy was named the MEAC's Offensive Lineman of the Year, while aiding a dominating Bulldog offense that accounted for 4,101 yards of total offense, including 2,000 yards on the ground. Behind Bellamy's blocking S.C. State finished second in the MEAC in scoring offense (29.6 ppg), and third in total offense (341.1 avg./g). Bellamy earned the conference's Offensive Lineman of the Week honor twice this season. Bellamy is the sixth Bulldog to earn Offensive Lineman of the Year accolades.

The 2013 BSN All-America Team was chosen by college sports information directors, college coaches, media and BSN staff.
