SC State Host Winthrop in 2012 Home-Opener

Fr., Contreras has two goals for four points in three games
Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's soccer team will host Winthrop in its 2012 home opener.  The contest is set for a 4:30 p.m. start in the Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium.

SC State opened its 2012 season with four straight road games.  The Lady Bulldogs completed its opening road swing with a 2-1 overall record.  The game versus Gardner Webb last Tuesday (Aug. 21) was cancelled in the first half due to inclement weather.

The Winthrop Eagles opened its season last Sunday with a 1-2 loss to Western Carolina and thus enters tomorrow's contest with a 0-1 record.

Freshman, Rhea Anne Currie, who was named Offensive Player of the Week last week (8-22-12), currently leads the team with two goals-one assists for five points.  Brooke Contreras, also a freshman, has recorded two goals for four points while junior Kaitlynn Cortez has one goal with one assist for three points in three games.

The Lady Bulldogs will remain home this weekend (Friday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 2) when they host the four-team Sleep Inn/Bulldog Tournament.  The tournament gets underway on Friday at 5 p.m. with the Alabama State-Francis Marion matchup and Sunday at 11 a.m. with Maine and Francis Marion.  SC State will host Maine on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Alabama State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
