Aggies Roll Over Bulldogs 78-58

SC State remain winless in MEAC

Box Score GREENSBORO, NC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs (5-19 overall, 0-10 MEAC) found themselves in a similar situation once again, falling behind and dropping a tough,78-58, decision to conference rival N.C. A&T State (11-15 overall, 6-5 MEAC) Saturday at Corbett Sports Center.
       “We just didn't hit our shots to even be in the game, “said SC State head coach Tim Carter. “Bottom line we didn't get the job done on both ends of the floor.”
       Senior guard Brandon Riley led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while freshman Devon Joint added 13 and five rebounds in the loss. 
      The Aggies had five players in double-figures with senior guard Nic Simpson leading the way with 17 points, while teammate DaMetrius Upchurch finished with 15.  Senior Marc Hill chipped 13, along with junior forward Adrian Powell adding 11 points, nine rebounds and junior guard Jean Louisme scoring 10 in the victory.
         Along, with nailing five 3-pointers and leading his team to victory Simpson scored his 1,000th career point on the night.
         N.C. A&T State jumped out to a quick 14-point lead, 26-12, off a layup by Upchurch at the 10:02 mark in the first half. Hill's driving layup with 4:11 left in the half push the margin to 19, 37-18. SC State cut the lead to 11, 40-29, on a jumper by Riley with a 1:05 left. Senior Marc Hill dribbled the ball coast to coast   for a layup as time expired to close out the first half, N. C. A&T leading SC State 43-29.
         Simpon's back-to-back 3-pointers in the second-half gave the Aggies a commanding 26-point lead, 73-47, at the 5:22 mark.  Freshman forward Anthony Estes's jumper followed by a layup sealed the victory for N.C. A&T with 3:00 left in regulation
         The Aggies held on to defeat the Bulldogs 85-55, dropping SC State to its 10th straight conference loss and worst start ever in school history. N.C. A&T's bench outscored SC State 56-18, while managing a game-high 13 steals.
         Carter stated, “It's doesn't get in easier from this point on and we have to find a way to turn this thing around quick and finish strong.”
         South Carolina State returns to action on Monday when they face conference newcomer NC Central and a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic showdown. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m., following the women's contest.
