SC State Falls Hampton in the Opening Round of the MEAC Post-Season Tournament

Baltimore, Md.—For the second straight season the SC State women's volleyball fell to Hampton in opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball championships.  The Lady Bulldogs dropped the match, which opened the championships, 0-3, (16-25, 22-25, 17-25).  The championships, which run through Sunday (Nov. 18), are being contested at the Physical Education Complex, on the campus of Coppin State in Baltimore, Md.

SC State began the match slow and would never recover.  The Lady Bulldogs did have some bright spots throughout the match, but could not sustain them over long stretches.  Set Two of the match was by far the best for SC State.  After dropping Set One, 16-25 with a hitting percentage of .103, The Lady Bulldogs hit a .371 en route to the 22-25 Set Two loss.  The team also recorded 17-of-its-38 kills in Set Two.  After intermission, the Lady Bulldogs appeared to have picked up the pace as they battled to stay even with Hampton over first 16 rotations.  The Lady Pirates then used a 6-0 run to take the 14-8 lead the momentum of the set.  Hampton closed the set on an 11-9 run to capture Set Three win, 25-17, and the match 3-0.

MEAC Player of the Year Desire Waller led SC State with a match-high 18 kills.  She also recorded four digs with one block solo and one block assist in the match.  Senior, E. Paige Webb, who played in her final match as a Lady Bulldog, picked up 13 digs in the contest. SC State closed out its season with a 9-15 overall record and 6-4 in the MEAC.

Vendula Strakova recorded 14 kills to lead the Lady Pirates who improved to 19-13 overall.  Sheileen Pagan had 16 digs in the victory.
