Gamecocks Hold Off Bulldogs 79-51

Box Score COLUMBIA, SC—Freshman forward Luka Radovic tossed in a season-high 15 point and grabbed four rebounds, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina cruised to a 79-51 victory over SC State Tuesday at the Colonial Life Center.
       SC State falls to 4-10 overall, 0-1 in the MEAC, while South Carolina improves to 8-6 on the season.
       South Carolina was led by Malik Cooke and Damontre Harris who 11 each in the victory. The Gamecocks shot 53.8 % from behind the 3-point line connecting on 11-of-23 on the night.
      “We just couldn't get tit going early on in the game,” said SC State head coach Tim Carter. “Our shots didn't go down and we dug ourselves in a hole we couldn't get out.”
        USC jumped to a quick 20-point advantage 30-10 off a jumper by Malik Cooke at the 8:00 mark in the first half. Brian Richardson's jumper with 0:20 seconds left in the half gave the Gamecocks a 22-point lead, 45-23 heading into halftime.
       Harris's 3-pointer gave South Carolina as much as a 28-point lead, 59-31 at the 14:24 in the game. SC State pulled within 18, 62-44 the closest margin in the contest with 8:52 left. A rebound and a tip-in by redshirt-freshman Carlton Geathers increased the lead to 30, 78-48 with 1:59 left in the game.
       South Carolina held on to a 79-51 victory over South Carolina State. Freshman Devin Joint grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, he also scored eight points in the loss.
       South Carolina State will return to action on Saturday Jan 7. when the host an exciting MEAC doubleheader against Morgan State. Tipoff for the women is 2 p.m., with the men following immediately.
