SC State Falls to Winthrop, 4-2, in Women's Soccer

Rock Hill, S.C. (9-21-11)--SC State second half push not enough as a they fall to Winthrop, 4-2, a non-conference women's soccer match. The match was the second-of-three straight road contests for the Lady Bulldogs.

SC State (1-5-2) was down 3-0 heading into the half but would not give up. The Lady Bulldogs came out aggressive in the second half scoring one goal in the 66th minute (Olivia Moore) and one 12 minutes later in the 78th minute (Tori Papp off an assist by Kaitlynn Cortez) to pull within one at 3-2. Winthrop (4-4-0) would score an insurance goal in the 86th minute off a free kick en route to its 4-2 victory.

"For the first time this season I saw our team fight back from a difficult situation, just like we did in the previous two seasons," said head coach Glad Bugariu. "I am very proud of the performance we put in, it gives some hope that we will still be able to turn this season around."

SC State will look to begin its turnaround this Sunday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Farmville, Va. take on Longwood University. The Lady Bulldogs will return home next Saturday, Oct. 1, when they host the University of North Dakota in its 2011 Great West Conference opener.
