SC State Teams Set Battle To Norfolk State In MEAC Play

NORFOLK, VA—The South Carolina State men and women's basketball team is set to battle Norfolk State in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader Monday at Echols Hall.
         Coach Tim Carter and the Bulldogs (4-4) enter the contest after suffering two tough losses to Georgia State (85-54) and Longwood University (92-81) on last week. Meanwhile, Norfolk State (5-3) dropped a tough one to Elizabeth City State (69-57), but defeated Savannah State (60-58) on a last second 3-pointer by senior Brandon Wheeless to win the game.
        The Bulldogs is led by junior point guard Khalif Toombs with 12.0 ppg and 3.4 rbg leads SC State in scoring, while senior Presano Bell and junior guard Aaron Marin each chips in 8.3 per contest. Bell leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 per outing. The Spartans is led by senior center Kyle O'Quinn with 14.0 ppg and 11.3 rbg, while Chris McEachin is second with 12.5 points per outing.
       On the women's side, SC State (2-4) enter tonight's contest after having battle through two tough defeats against University of Georgia (85-48) and Hampton (73-41). Norfolk State is on a two game winning streak having defeated Chowan (60-43) and Texas Southern (80-58).
         The Lady Bulldogs is led in scoring by guard Tiara Knotts with 12.8 ppg, while Tiana Hemphill leads the team in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds per game and 6.3 points per outing. The Lady Spartans have three players in double-figures with Whitney Long scoring 15.4 ppg, Rae Corbo with 13.7 ppg, and  Rachel Gordon with 12.0 ppg, and  10.9 rebounds per contest.
           Next up for the men is Gardner-Webb (12/10) in Boling Springs, NC, while the women's travel to Rock Hill, SC to take on Winthrop in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
