Riley Lead Bulldogs Over Warriors 69-50

—Senior guard Brandon Riley poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead SC State to a 69-50 win over Webber International on Wednesday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
       Freshman Luka Radovic added 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, while senior forward Presano Bell grabbed 11 rebounds and scored seven points in the victory.
       “ I thought being shorthanded tonight we did a good job on controlling the ball and making some big basketballs, said SC State  head coach Tim Carter. “
       The first-half was nip and tuck with SC State jumping out to a five point lead, 19-14 off a layup by Khalif Toombs at the 8:41 mark. The Warriors cut the lead to three, 28-25 off a layup by Jay Philippe.
      Riley's layup and foul with 1:58 left in the half extended the lead to nine, 34-25. Senior forward Donte Wooten closed out the half with a tip-in to give the Bulldogs a 36-26 lead.
       Senior guard Brandon Riley led all scorers with a game-high 12 points at the half.
       The second-half was all SC State building a quick 20 point lead, 51-31 off a 3-pointer by junior guard Aaron Martin at the 11:29 mark. A 3-pointer by junior forward Tyler Auerbacher cut the lead to 14, 51-37. SC State proved to be too strong for Webber down the stretch with forward Luka Radovic power his way inside for back-to-back baskets  to extend the lead to 18, 55-37 with 7:22 left in the game.
       A jumper by Riley followed by a 3-pointer by Toombs handed SC State their biggest lead of the night 24, 69-45 late in the second-half.  The Bulldogs held on to a 69-50 victory over the Warriors of Webber International.
       Despite, 17 turnovers by the Bulldogs they managed to outrebound Webber 49-28 along grabbing 17 steals on the night.
       Senior center Dante Wooten grabbed a career-high nine rebounds along with adding six points in the win.
      Carter stated, “One thing about Riley is that he is a scorer, but we need to do a better job of getting up and down the floor.”
      SC State improved to 2-1 overall, while Webber falls to 2-3 on the season.
      SC State will return to action on Saturday when they host Gardner-Webb University in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., following the women's contest.
