Bulldogs Drop Tough 75-38 Defeat To Cavaliers On The Road

—The University of Virginia proved to be too much for SC State handing the Bulldogs a 75-38 setback Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena.
      SC State falls to 1-1 on the season, while Virginia improves to 1-0 with the victory. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was senior forward Omar Sanders with a team-high 13 points, forward Presano Bell and guard Khalif Tombs chipped in 10 each.
      UVa jumped out early building a 10 point lead in the first half, 20-20 on a layup by Akil Mitchell at the 6:40 mark. The Cavaliers sparked an 11-0 run on a 3-pointer by guard Joe Harris to extend the lead to 21, 31-10 with 2:19 left in the half.
       A 3-pointer and then lay up by Sanders cut the lead to 15, 33-18 with 0:34 seconds left.  Virginia took a 33-18 lead into halftime.
      UVa totally dominated the second half jumping out to a 34 point lead, 65-31 on a jumper by KT Harrell at the 6:03 mark in the game. Guard Doug Browman's 3-pointer with 0:45 seconds left in regulation gave Virginia its biggest lead of the day 40, 75-35.
       UVa would hold to cruise to a 75-35 victory over SC State in their home season-opener.
      Next up South Carolina State will host Webber University on Wednesday Nov.16 at 7:30 p.m. and Gardner Webb on Saturday Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Both games will be broadcast live on WSSB 90.3.
