Moore Hits Game-Winning Goal in Overtime to Lead SC State Over Winthrop

Lady Bulldogs Win Second Straight

Jr., Olivia Moore scored the game-winning goal against Winthrop

Orangeburg, SC—Junior transfer Olivia Moore hit the game-winning goal in the 97th minute to give SC State the 2-1 overtime win over Winthrop.  The victory is the second straight for the Lady Bulldogs women's soccer team who defeated UNC-Asheville on Monday.

SC State ( 6-4-1) got on the scoreboard first as senior Brooke Ehinger scored off an assist by Olivia Moore in the 27th minute of the game.  The Lady Bulldogs managed to hold Winthrop (0-7-1) scoreless for the remainder of the half to take a 1-0 advantage into intermission.

Out of intermission, Winthrop did not hold back its aggression, as Allie VandeWater scored off an assist by Rachel Webster in just the 6th minute of half (50:54) to tie the score at 1-1.  Neither team could score in the remaining 39 minutes hence ending regulation in a 1-1 tie and forcing overtime.

With two minutes off the clock in the overtime period, freshman Briana Lopez passed the ball to an open Moore for the game-winning shot.

SC State will return back to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 when they travel to Florence, SC to take on Francis Marion University.  The Lady Bulldogs will return back to their home field next Friday, Oct. 8 when they host Howard University in its first Great West Conference matchup of the season.
