Kathlyn Gooden

Kathlyn Gooden is in her fourth year as a volunteer assistant coach with the SC State women’s volleyball program. After finishing her career with the Lady Bulldogs at the end of the 2007 campaign, she served one season as a student assistant.
Gooden, a native of Bridgetown, Barbados, was named to her country’s Junior National Volleyball Team in 2001 and was subsequently called to try-out for the Senior National Volleyball Team. Before transferring to State in 2006, Gooden was a two-year captain at Queen’s College. During that same time, she was the captain of the Carlton Club volleyball team which in 2006 earned an overall second place finish in Division II that allowed them to advance to a Division I status.
During her two seasons at SC State (2006 & 2007), Stephenson recorded 175 kills, 94 digs, 48 block assists and 5 block solos. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Winston-Salem State annual tournament (2007) and was the Scholar Athlete of the Year at SC State (2007-08).
Stephenson also excelled off the court as she received numerous academic awards and was a member of several honor societies. She was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society and the SC State Honors Program. Gooden also served as the President of the International Students Association.
Stephenson received her degree  Summa Cum Laude in Nutrition and Food Management in May 2009. She is certified by the American Dietetic Association in Adult Weight Management.  She and her husbandRandy Gooden, also a former student athlete at SC State, has a newborn son, Nathan.
