HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — South Carolina State generated six shots and remained within striking distance for much of the match before falling 3-0 to Alabama A&M in women's soccer action Sunday at the Alabama A&M Soccer Field.
Alabama A&M (2-4-2) struck first when Jordyn Washington scored in the fourth minute, giving the host Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.
SC State (0-9-1) responded by controlling the attacking chances for the remainder of the opening half. The Lady Bulldogs outshot Alabama A&M 4-2 before halftime, with Aaliyah Silver,
Victoria Coleman and Eiliyah Tomes creating opportunities. Tomes placed SC State's lone shot on goal in the 40th minute, but Alabama A&M goalkeeper Adriana Durango made the save.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to apply pressure early in the second half.
Denive Guy-Williams recorded a shot in the 47th minute, while SC State earned two corner kicks during the opening seven minutes of the period.
Alabama A&M extended its lead in the 69th minute when Czaske Deane scored off assists from Layla Griffin and Brea Bailey. Deane added an unassisted goal in the 85th minute to complete the scoring.
SC State goalkeeper
Jada Gittings faced eight shots on goal and recorded four saves. The Lady Bulldogs were credited with five total saves, including one team save.
Victoria Coleman led SC State with two shots. Silver, Tomes, Guy-Williams and
Jaelyn Moore each added one attempt. Tomes registered the team's only shot on target.
Alabama A&M finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. The hosts also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. SC State committed only four fouls in the contest, compared with five by Alabama A&M.
