Norfolk, Va. — The South Carolina State Bulldogs defeated Delaware State, 8-3, Wednesday evening at TowneBank Field during MEAC Tournament play.
South Carolina State used a balanced offensive attack and a complete-game effort in the circle from
Aaryn Krebs to secure the victory. After taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning, the Bulldogs scored in four different innings and finished with 12 hits overall.
Mikenna Williams paced the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while MEAC Rookie of the Year
Dallas Hill drove in three runs, highlighted by a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Madison Boyd added a two-run triple in the seventh, and
Ellanie Yarrell scored twice as part of South Carolina State's late push.
Lashea Morlu also recorded two hits and scored a run in the win.
In the circle, Krebs earned the complete-game victory after allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out nine over seven innings. She improved to 4-1 on the season.
For Delaware State, Chandler Martin drove in a run with a double in the second inning, while Jaylyn Slater added an RBI groundout in the sixth. Karly Cain, Mianna Lopez Del Haro and Mi'Shon King each recorded hits as the Hornets finished with six total hits.
South Carolina State advances to the MEAC Semifinals and will face top-seeded Howard on Friday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m., with a berth in the MEAC Championship on the line.
