WASHINGTON— The South Carolina State women's basketball team suffered yet another setback in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play Saturday (Feb. 7)85-66 loss versus Howard inside Burr Gymnasium.
South Carolina State (5-17, 2-5) was led by Iemyiah Harris, who scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including five 3-pointers.
Shaunice Reed added 16 points and six free throws, while
Kimora Smith and
DaH'Neisha Blige each contributed six points.
Zennia Thomas scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Howard (17-7, 7-1 MEAC) who seized control in the second quarter, outscoring South Carolina State 32–11 to build a commanding 49–24 halftime advantage. The Bison shot 70.6% from the field in the period and connected on six 3-pointers to break the game open.
South Carolina State never led, as Howard opened the game on a 10–0 run and maintained control throughout. The Bulldogs showed signs of life in the fourth quarter, scoring 26 points behind Harris' outside shooting, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Howard led by as many as 35 points in the third quarter and held the Bulldogs scoreless from the lead column, controlling the game for more than 39 minutes.
South Carolina State returns to MEAC play on the road Monday, while Howard continues conference action looking to maintain its hold near the top of the standings.
