Bulldogs Fall At Home To Morgan State 90-83

ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State dropped an tough Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) battle Wednesday (Feb.25) to visiting Morgan State 90-83 inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center in Orangeburg.

Morgan State (12-14, 8-3 MEAC) finished 12 of 20 from beyond the arc and 28 of 34 at the free-throw line to secure its third straight win. South Carolina State (7-20, 5-6) shot 49 percent from the field but struggled from deep, hitting just 3 of 15 attempts.

The Bulldogs outscored Morgan State 46-24 in the paint and held a 51-35 edge in bench points but committed 16 turnovers that led to 12 Bears points.

Morgan State led 42-40 at halftime and stretched the margin to as many as eight in the second half. The Bulldogs briefly grabbed a 62-61 lead on Christopher Parker's fast-break layup with 9:46 remaining, but the Bears responded with timely perimeter shooting down the stretch.

A 3-pointer by Alvin with 3:06 left pushed Morgan State ahead 79-74, and Worrell followed with a 3-pointer at the 4:35 mark to keep the Bulldogs at bay. The Bears sealed the game at the line, going 20 of 25 in the second half.

Morgan State controlled the tempo for much of the night, leading for more than 33 minutes and building a first-half advantage that grew to 15 points before South Carolina State rallied to within two by the break.

Christopher Parker paced South Carolina State with 19 points and eight rebounds. Noah Treadwell added 16 points, while Jayden Johnson had 11 points and seven assists. Teon Tindal finished with 14 points off the bench.

Alfred Worrell Jr. led the Bears with 23 points, including 9 of 9 from the foul line. Eugene Alvin added 20 points on 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point range and 8-of-11 shooting overall, while Rob Lawson chipped in 14 points. Christian Meeks contributed nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

NEXT UP: SC State returns to action on Saturday (Feb.28) in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on the road versus Maryland Eastern Shore. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
