ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State women's volleyball returns to Dukes Gymnasium on Friday for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup against Coppin State.
First serve is scheduled for
6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, with the match airing live on the
MEAC Network. The contest begins a two-match conference homestand for the Bulldogs, who will also host Morgan State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Friday's match will also welcome
local middle and high school volleyball teams, with
free admission, as promoted by SC State.
South Carolina State enters the matchup
4-13 overall and 0-2 in MEAC play after opening its conference schedule with road matches at Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State. The Bulldogs earned their most recent victory Sept. 22 with a 3-1 road decision over Fort Valley State.
Coppin State enters Orangeburg at
11-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Eagles have won 10 consecutive matches, tying the program record, following Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Loyola Maryland. Coppin State opened MEAC competition with consecutive 3-0 victories over Howard and Norfolk State.
SC State will look to its balanced group of offensive and defensive contributors.
Kenna Harris leads the Bulldogs with 151 kills and averages 2.52 kills per set, while
Amani Hawkins follows with 130 kills and 2.32 per set.
Taelyn Graham has provided an efficient presence at the net, hitting .244 while leading SC State with 38 total blocks.
In the back row,
Jordan Dalland leads SC State with 189 digs and 3.10 digs per set, while
Ki'ra Wright has collected 182 digs and averages 2.94 per set.
Macey McCoy leads the Bulldogs with 260 assists, followed by
Arianna James with 189.
Coppin State brings one of the MEAC's stronger statistical profiles into the matchup. The Eagles are hitting .232 as a team while averaging 12.52 kills, 11.21 assists, 1.79 aces, 13.23 digs and 2.36 blocks per set.
Eva Rovello directs the Coppin State offense with 613 assists and a 9.29 assists-per-set average, while Coco Figueroa has a team-best 266 digs. Kayden Cupid has been a force at the net with 79 total blocks and 1.36 blocks per set.
The MEAC's latest weekly notes list Rovello as the conference leader in assists per set, Figueroa as the leader with 266 digs and Cupid as the league leader with 79 total blocks.
