ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State rallied in the second half to defeat Mid-Atlantic Christian 56–50 in nonconference men's basketball action Tuesday (Jan. 20) night at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

The Bulldogs (4–16) trailed 34–27 at halftime before outscoring the Mustangs 29–16 over the final 20 minutes. SCSU closed the game on a late surge, taking its largest lead — six points — in the final 14 seconds.

Owen Bronston Jr. led South Carolina State with 18 points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and going 6 of 8 from the free-throw line. Christopher Parker added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Florian Tenebay finished with 12 points and five boards.

Mid-Atlantic Christian (1–9) was paced by Janus Shepherd, who scored a game-high 21 points on 8-for-18 shooting and hit four 3-pointers. Terrance Williams chipped in nine points and four rebounds.

The Bulldogs overcame 19 turnovers by controlling the interior defensively and winning the rebounding margin 44–28, including 15 offensive boards. MACU's early 10-point lead was erased midway through the second half as SCSU held the Mustangs to just 25 percent shooting after the break.
