ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball team open the new year in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play Saturday (Jan. 3) versus Howard University inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Tipoff for the women is 2:00 p.m., followed by the men in a 4:00 p.m. start.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-12 overall, 0-0 MEAC) look to snap a four-game losing skid and enter league play with a clean slate. Shauince Reed leads the way 12.0 points per game in 12-games played, followed by Angie Juste-Jean with 9.6 ppg and Mya Bryd at 8.9.
As a team, SCSU averages 31.8 rebounds and 11.0 steals.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (1-14 overall, 0-0 MEAC) look to snap a two-game losing skid after playing a tough non-conference slate, including nationally ranked SEC and ACC opponents.
Owen Bronston, Jr., and All MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Jayden Johnson averaged a little over 11.3 points per game in non-conference play. Chris Parker is the leader on the boards at 7.1 per outing.
As a team, the Bulldogs average 31.2 rebounds, 11.3 assists, and 6.9 steals.
NEXT UP: South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams hit the road for a two-game league swing versus Morgan State on Saturday (Jan.10) and Coppin State on Monday (Jan. 12).
