NORFOLK, Va., May 9, 2025 – Sixth-seeded South Carolina State powered its way into the consolation final of the 2025 MEAC Softball Championship with an emphatic 11-1 run-rule victory over No. 2 Norfolk State on Friday morning at the NSU Softball Field.
The Lady Bulldogs return to the field at 12:10 p.m. to face third-seeded Delaware State, with a trip to Saturday's championship game against top-seeded Howard on the line.
MEAC Player of the Year
Taylor Ames-Alexander set the tone early, launching a solo home run over the left field fence in the top of the first inning. She followed up in the third with a two-run blast, her second of the day, to extend S.C. State's lead to 5-0.
The Lady Bulldogs tacked on two runs in the second inning, capitalizing on a hit-by-pitch and a Norfolk State fielding error. Then in the fourth, they broke the game wide open with a six-run surge. S.C. State tallied six hits in the inning, including RBI singles from
Marley Quammie and Lashea Morlu. Defensive miscues by the Spartans contributed to the damage.
Norfolk State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Ennovi Sandoval scored on an error, but it wasn't enough to avoid the early finish.
With momentum on their side, the Lady Bulldogs now aim for a spot in the championship game.
