NORFOLK, Va., May 8, 2025 – No. 6 seed South Carolina State delivered the biggest upset of the 2025 MEAC Softball Championship so far, taking down defending champion and No. 4 seed Morgan State, 4-2, in an elimination game Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs now advance to face No. 2 Norfolk State in the consolation semifinal on Friday, May 9.

Madison Boyd to tie the game, and a bases-loaded walk brought
Taylor Ames-Alexander home to give the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
South Carolina State extended its advantage in the second inning. A perfectly placed bunt by
Jamaria Charley resulted in two runs, with both Charley and
Marley Quammie crossing the plate, pushing the lead to 4-1.
Morgan State's final run came in the third, when Amber Rivas tripled and scored on a Victoria Fletcher groundout to trim the deficit to 4-2. Despite placing six runners on base through the remainder of the game, the Lady Bears were unable to capitalize.
South Carolina State left just two runners stranded, riding strong defensive play and timely execution to secure the win.
