NORFOLK, VA — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), in collaboration with the tennis coaches and student athletes of the eight member institutions, collected children's books for donation to Read and Feed during the 2025 MEAC Tennis Championships. Together, new and gently used books were collected for students in grades K–5 in Cary, N.C., and the surrounding community.
Read and Feed is a Wake County-based nonprofit dedicated to strengthening literacy skills among children from underserved communities. The organization provides free books, meals, and tutoring through its mobile classroom program. The MEAC's book drive supported this mission by collecting inclusive, high-quality books to help foster a love of reading.
Each MEAC member institution and the conference office contributed to the initiative by bringing children's books to the championship event. In addition to in-person donations, supporters also contributed through online wish lists hosted by Amazon, Quail Ridge Books, and Liberation Station.
The drive ran throughout the duration of the championship and successfully gathered a diverse collection of books aimed at early readers. The MEAC will be shipping all collected books to Read and Feed for distribution to local students.
The MEAC extends its heartfelt thanks to all participating institutions, fans, and community members whose generosity helped make this effort a success. Through its partnership with Read and Feed, the conference not only celebrated athletic achievement but also championed literacy and educational equity.
