ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State assistant football coach Demir Boldin was selected to participate in the 2024 NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy, which runs Feb. 22-24 in Indianapolis, IN.
The NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy provides current, full-time college football coaches at NCAA member schools an educational opportunity to build connections and develop leadership acumen to pursue their career aspirations.
"It's an honor to be selected to the NFL Coaches Academy. My goal as a coach is to expand my knowledge of football beyond the field, said Boldin. "The tools I will gain will not just benefit me but also South Carolina State University."
Boldin just completed his first season as a member of the Bulldog coaching staff. He currently serves the wide receiver coach, where he developed and coached All-MEAC performers
Caden High and Justin Brown-Smith who each posted outstanding seasons under Boldin.
Prior to SC State, he served as the Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Wide Receivers Coach at Lake Erie College (D-II) for the past two years. Before becoming Head Coach, Boldin served as the Wide Receivers coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator at Lake Erie College during the 2021 football season. As Wide Receivers Coach, Boldin produced a First Team All-GMAC Wide Receiver three years in a row (2021-23), a back-to-back 1,000-yard Wide Receiver in (2021-22), and an All-American Receiving Tight End in 2021.
Before moving to Northeast Ohio, Boldin served as Head Coach at his Alma Mater Pahokee High School in Florida. In his two seasons at Pahokee (2019-20), Boldin led his team to the 2019 State Semi-finals, was named Palm Beach County Coach of the Year and was featured in the docuseries "4th and Forever: Muck City." During the 2020 Covid season, he led Pahokee to the 1A-6A Tri-County Gold Playoffs, a South Florida replacement for the state postseason. As Head Coach, Boldin aided 15 student-athletes to earn full-ride scholarships to FBS and FCS colleges and Universities. Before Pahokee, Boldin coached at two high schools in the greater Memphis area. He served as the Offensive Coordinator for both Middle College High School in 2017 and St. Benedict at Auburndale High School in 2018.
In the Pro ranks, Boldin spent 3 seasons (2013-15) as an Assistant Football Coach in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers. While in the NFL, Boldin worked with the Offensive Line where he helped All-Pro Joe Staley and Mike Iupati achieve their highest honor amongst their peers, by being selected to play in the Pro Bowl. Also, while working with the Tight Ends, Boldin helped All-Pro Vernon Davis achieve a personal best season of 13 Receiving Touchdowns. Prior to starting his coaching career, Boldin played Wide Receiver at Wake Forest University. He earned a spot on the Sporting News ACC All-Freshman Team in 2005 and achieved First-Team All-ACC honors as a Senior, after recording 81 receptions, 848 yards, and 3 touchdowns during his senior season in 2008.
After College, Boldin was signed as an Undrafted Free Agent with the Detroit Lions in 2009 and would later finish his playing career with a stint in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts from 2010-12.
Topics will include effective communication with campus and community constituents, the importance of building a culture focused on the overall success of the student-athletes, budget management of a football program, and coaching strategies and philosophies. Equally vital will be discussion about managing themselves personally throughout the rigors associated with life as a coach.
As coaches at the academy, Boldin will engage in and discuss a wide range of issues with esteemed peers and industry professionals, which will improve his capacity to serve, lead, and teach student-athletes as an effective coach both on and off the field.
Boldin noted, "I plan on soaking up all the knowledge that will be in the rooms of the coaching academy. When you have an opportunity to be around coaches from different levels of the game you have to take full advantage of the opportunity."
