ORANGEBURG, SC—Senior guard
Shaunice Reed tossed in a game-high 19 points to lead South Carolina State to an 69-62 win over visit West Georgia Sunday (Dec.7) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Iemyiah Harris back from an injury finished with 16 points, while
Mya Byrd and
Angie Juste-Jean each chipped in 12 points each respectively in the win.
Harris finished 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe, while Reed finished 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
South Carolina State snapped an eight-game losing skid and captured its third win under first-year head coach Cedrick W. Baker.
SCSU dominated in several categories including points off turnovers (14-9), points in the paint (26-26) and points off the bench (22-10).
West Georgia was led by Destiny Jones with the games only double-double with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while teammate Sydne Tolbert added 18 in the loss.
NEXT UP: SC State returns to action Friday (Dec. 12) on the road versus Alabama State in a non-conference battle, beginning at 5:00 PM (CST), 6:00 PM (EST).
