Women’s Basketball Host Winthrop Sunday

ORANGEBURG, SC— The South Carolina State women's basketball team is back in action Sunday (Nov. 30) at home versus Winthrop University in a non-conference battle inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.  Tipoff is 4:00 p.m.

  • Cedric W. Baker is in his first year as head coach of the Lady Bulldog basketball program.
  • Iemyiah Harris leads the team in scoring with 12.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
  • Shaunice Reed is second in scoring with 11.0 points per game, while Mya Byrd and Angie Juste-Jean chip in 10 points each respectively.

WINTHROP 
  • Winthrop is 4-0 in games in which they score 70+ points, and 0-4 in games in which they do not. 
  • Madison Ruff reached a career-high mark of 16 points against the win over SIU. E
  • Pierfax powered Winthrop's offense throughout the week of Nov. 17, averaging 14.5 points while knocking down threes at a scorching .462 clip on 6-of-13 shooting. She set the tone against No. 2 South Carolina with 16 points o1.6n .500 shooting, then backed it up less than 24 hours later with another double-digit effort, finishing with 13 against Clinton on Friday.  
  • Wilson was a problem for opposing offenses all week, averaging 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds while turning in one of the most disruptive defensive performances Winthrop has seen in years. She erupted for a career-high 12 points against Clinton on Friday and nearly posted a triple-double, piling up eight rebounds and a staggering eight steals. Her eight-steal outing was the program's most since Jada Ryce logged 10 in December 2023, and the first by a Winthrop freshman since Dequesha McClanahan in 2010.  
NEXT UP: South Carolina State returns to action on Wednesday (Dec. 3rd)  versus UNC Asheville in a non-conference battle beginning at 11:30 a.m.
 
 ABOUT SC STATE ATHLETICS
South Carolina State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently fields teams in 14 sports: women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field, softball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, women's soccer and football with all teams competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), except for women's soccer.
