MEAC Title Game Set: Bulldogs Battle Hornets On National Stage

DOVER, DE--The final two undefeated teams in the MEAC will collide Saturday as South Carolina State travels to Alumni Stadium to face the Delaware State Hornets in a winner-take-all showdown. 

South Carolina State enters the final week of the regular season with an 8-3 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in league play. The Bulldogs boast the MEAC's top-ranked passing offense, surpassing 3,100 total yards and averaging 289.4 yards per game through the air. That production is led by the graduate quarterback duo William Atkins IV and Ryan Stubblefield. Atkins has thrown for 2,074 yards on the year, while Stubblefield has completed 84-of-146 passes for 1,060 yards. 

In their most recent outing, a 34-27 win over North Carolina Central; the Bulldogs posted 454 total yards of offense. Atkins powered the passing attack, finishing 24-of-36 for 314 yards and three touchdowns.  Delaware State enters the matchup with its own unblemished 4-0 conference record and an identical 8-3 overall mark. In his first season at the helm, head coach Desaun Jackson has guided the Hornets to the MEAC's No. 1 total offense, including a league-best rushing attack that has amassed 3,041 yards, over 1,160 yards more than any other conference opponent. 

HORNET STING: The Hornets are coming off a 26-13 home victory over Howard behind a dominant ground performance. Delaware State rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Marquis Gillis led the way with 92 yards on 5.8 yards per carry, while James Jones added 34. 

SERIES: Saturday's matchup will mark the 16th meeting between the programs, with South Carolina State holding a 12-3 advantage in the all-time series.
The winner of Saturday's contest will be crowned the 2025 MEAC Football champion and earn a berth to the 2025 Cricket Celebration Bowl, to be played December 13, 2025, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
