ORANGEBURG, SC – In their final competition leading up to the Nov. 1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Championship, the South Carolina State men were 13th overall while the women finished 23
rd in a large field at the USC Upstate Cross Country Invite at Spartanburg Saturday (Oct. 18).
Junior
Tinashe Bure was the leader again for South Carolina State in the men's 8K, finishing 22
nd with a personal record (PR) time of 25:07.7, while sophomore
Nia Singleton paced the women with a clocking of 23:38.3, finishing 135 in the women's 5K.
Others participating for Coach Donald Cooper's men were
Andrew Latimer (26:41.2), Amari Ned (28:32.8 PR),
Jalyn Price (28:39.5),
Kemal Forbes (29:12.3),
Brandon McMillen (29:34.1), and
Isaiah Johnson (31:46.4).
Also competing for the SC State women were Shania Joseph (23:38.3),
Makayla Toussaint (25:43.7),
TyQwasia Williams (25:52.5), Nevah Campbell (26:24.4), and
Sydney Cooper (28:01.7).
Twenty-Two teams, totaling 228 runners, participated in the men's competition; while 23 teams, 217 runners, made up the women's field.
SC State will resume its schedule Nov. 1 at the MEAC Cross Country Championships in Cary, NC.
