CHARLESTON, SC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs look to bounce back Saturday (Sept. 7) when they hit the road to take on intrastate rival The Citadel in a non-conference showdown inside Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is 12 noon and will be televised on ESPN+.

THE SERIES: The Citadel leads the series 4-1 dating back to 1989. The last time the two teams met on the gridiron SC State defeated The Citadel 31-10 in Orangeburg (9/23/23). SC State head coach Chennis Berry enters his first season as head coach of the Bulldogs. The Citadel's Maurice Drayton enters its second at the helm of his alma mater.
SC State Picked 4th In League Race; Eight Bulldogs Earn All Preseason Honors
- Eight (8) South Carolina State Bulldogs were named to the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Football All-Conference team, while first-year head coach Chennis Berry's team was picked to finish fourth (4th) in the race for the league title, as voted on by MEAC head football coaches and sports information directors.
BULLDOG BITES
- First-year head coach Chennis Berry looks first his first win after taking over the historic football program that has captured 18 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships in school history.
- Redshirt freshman place kicker Kyle Gallegos was named MEAC Rookie of the Week for his FAMU on last week. Gallegos recorded two field goals, 35- and 37-yards, in the Bulldogs game at Florida A&M. He also registered 238 yards on four kickoffs with one touchback and a 59.5-yard average.
- Senior punter Dyson Roberts amassed 266 yards on six punts averaging 44.3 yards per kick with a long of 58 yards.
- Duo running backs controlled the game: Transfers Deondra Duehart finished with 10 carries for 77-yards (7.4 ypr), while KZ Adams added 11 rushes for 60-yards and a touchdown on the ground.
- The defense was spearheaded by Diego Addison and Jamare Benjamin with 6 tackles each respectively.
- Bulldogs welcome a new look with over 45 newcomers and (8) eight freshmen to this year's roster.

Aaron Smith have received numerous All-American and Preseason accolades include being named to the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List. The Last senior to be named to the watch list was LA Rams defensive back Decobie Durant.
3- Five former Bulldogs will be on active NFL roster this season in Javon Hargrave (San Francisco), Decobie Durant (LA Rams) and Antonio Hamilton (Atlanta Falcons)
4-SC State is the only school in the palmetto state with four National Football League (NFL) Hall of Famers with Deacon Jones, Maron Motley, Harry Carson and Donnie Shell.
30- First-year head coach Chennis Berry brings over 30-years of coaching experience from the HBCU ranks to South Carolina State football legacy.
62-This year's Bulldog roster will feature 62 players from the state of South Carolina.
