HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The South Carolina State men's tennis team knocked off George Mason 4-1 Thursday afternoon at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
The Patriots started out the match strong by capturing the doubles point, but fell in the next four singles matches as the Bulldogs were able to capture the victory.
In singles action, at the No. 1 spot
Novak Novakovic def. Lotlikar (GMU), 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot
Mikalai Bankou def. Arends (GMU), 6-2, 6-1; at the No. 5 spot
Gabriel Johnson def. Fahim (GMU), 6-4, 6-1 and at the No.6 spot
Ivan Pauliuchenka def. Pedraza (GMU), 6-4, 6-4.
"Overall, we had a good win against a solid George Mason squad. We started very slow in doubles," said head coach Hardeep Judge. "Our guys had a tough time adjusting to the speed of the court today and we made some adjustments in singles and dominated in singles."
Judge noted, "We have several tough matches coming up including UGA tomorrow. We will enjoy this win and get back to work."
NEXT UP: The Bulldogs will take on Rider University in the next contest of the Hilton Head Spring Tournament Friday (March 15) in a 12-noon start.
