ORANGEBURG, SC-South Carolina State men's basketball moved into 2
nd place of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings after posting an impressive,64-56, win over Maryland Eastern Shore Monday (Feb. 26
th) in the final home game of the regular season inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Freshman guard
Mitchell Taylor led the way with a team-high 12 points and five (5) rebounds, while forward/center
Drayton Jones added 10 points and five (5) rebounds in the win.
Caleb McCarty and
Davion Everett each grabbed seven (7) rebounds respectively.
South Carolina State dominated in several categories including points in the paint (36-22), bench points (41-6) and rebounding (38-30).
UMES was led by Troy Hupstead with a game-high 23 points and six (6) rebounds in the loss.
South Carolina State improves to 12-16 overall, 7-4 in the MEAC, while UMES falls to 8-17 overall 3-8 in the league.
NEXT UP:Â South Carolina State will close out the regular season on the road in a three-game MEAC swing beginning with Morgan State (Mar. 2), Coppin State (Mar. 4) and North Carolina Central (Mar. 7).
