ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team defeated Delaware State, 69-61, Saturday (Feb.24) to complete a season sweep inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
The Bulldogs improve to 11-16 overall, 6-4 in the MEAC, while Delaware State falls 12-14 overall, 5-5 in the league.
The win moves SCSU into a three-way tie for 2
nd place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Graduate guard
Raquan Brown led the way with game-high 18 points, while
Caleb McCarty added 12 points and six (6) rebounds in the win.
In a reserve role junior guard
Wilson Dubinsky finished with eight (8) points nailing two key 3-pointers. Freshman center
Drayton Jones led the team in rebounds with eight (8) along with six (6) points respectively.
SC State dominated in several categories on the day including points in the paint (25-18), second chance points (16-7), fast break points (5-2), bench points (34-17) and rebounding (35-30).
NEXT UP: South Carolina State will play their final home game of the regular season Monday (Feb.26) when they host the visiting Hawks of UMES in the second game of an exciting doubleheader beginning with the women at 5:30 pm, following by the men in a 7:30 pm start.
