WASHINGTON, DC—Micheal Teal tossed in a team-high 15 points, while teammate
Mitchell Taylor added 14 to lead South Carolina State to an75-68 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road win over Howard Monday (Feb. 19) inside Burr Gymnasium.
SC State improves to 10-16 overall, 5-4 in the MEAC, while Howard falls to 11-15 overall, 5-4 in the league.
Omar Croskey added 12, while
Davion Everett grabbed a team-high six (6) rebounds.
Teal nailed in a pair of free-throws at the 5:45 mark to push SC State ahead 28-25 in the first half. Howard regained momentum off a jumper and 3-pointer by Marcus Dockery to take a 35-32 lead heading into intermission.
The Bulldogs dominated in several categories in the win including fast break points (15-12), second chance points (14-8), bench points (38-20), steals (10-5), on court points (58-48) and rebounds (35-29).
The game included 10 different lead changes with the Bulldogs leading by as many as 18 in the second half at the 10:29 mark sparked by a layup by
Drayton Jones.
A late rally by Howard pulled the Bison within two, 68-66 with a 1:03 left in regulation. Free throws down the stretch secured the victory for the Bulldogs.
SC State a game-best 85.2% from the charity stripe connecting on 23-of-27.
The Bison was led by Seth Towns with 15 points, while Bryce Harris added 14 in the loss,
